The Pending Storm

Updated: 4 days ago

Ok South Floridians, Hurricane season is just around the corner and every year we spend a great deal of time on Hurricane prepping. Well this year is definitely different, Why?

Well with the pandemonium of COVID 19 the store shelves went bare and stores are still having difficulty with maintaining a normal stock. Add to that, you may have heard of farmers giving away crops due to low sales and distribution since restaurants have shut their doors. Food that was ready for market now sits spoiling. So put yourself in the farmers shoes, are you going to bust your "butt" to plant new fields now? The answer is NO. So as we go forward we will very likely see food shortages as we go into the Fall Harvest.

Now some of you are thinking ,well I'm not a big vegetable eater anyway, first shame on you, but seriously, the crops mostly grains also are used to feed livestock, and so we will see less as Farmers maintain smaller population of livestock ready for butcher and ultimately your table. Less livestock less milk etc. Its all tied in.

So let's get back to Hurricane season, since demand has been so high, due to pandemic shopping, store onhand reserves are already at an all time low. So, when we get the all clear to return to "normal" and the pandemic mob goes back to their old habits, you should continue to store and prep.

This year start early with buying the things you like when you see them on sale, and stock up for long term a few months not a few weeks as usual.

Great time to go out a buy a small deep freezer to keep in the garage and stock it up. Frozen vegetables, meats, fish. Individually packaged items or buy big cook and store. Up to you, but basically start now and get ready for the long hall. If we get a early season storm stores will not be able to cope, and resupply from out of State is also, not available, so it is going to be a tough one.

Let's hope for the best but prepare for the worst.
